C-E Minerals'
Tennessee Electro Minerals Plant called TECO, located in Greeneville,
is a world leader in the production of high purity fused silica grains
and powders sold under the registered TECO-SIL® and TECO-SPHERE®.
Teco-Sil® fused silica is used for kiln furniture, investment casting,
electronic molding compounds, metal pouring nozzles and refractories.
Teco-Sphere® is used primarily in the electronics and other specialty
industries.
Because raw material and in-process quality
control are extremely important in the production of fused minerals, quality
control is vital. C-E Minerals
is ISO 9002 certified. It assures that every rail car delivery of quartz
sand meets stringent quality levels for size, PH, magnetic iron and chemistry.
It requires a formal vendor certificate of analysis before any raw material
is accepted.
The production of fused silica begins with
the fusion process. The furnaces rapid rotation causes the melting
sand to form an opening inside the metal shell. As heat is applied, the
ingot fuses from the inside-out.
After fusion is completed,
the ingot is removed from the furnace and taken to a covered cooling area.
Once cooled, the ingot is stripped of its
crust and transported to the primary crushing system.
At this point, the crushed material is directed
to either a series of crushing and screening operations for grains, or
to a weigh feeder and continuous ceramic ball or bath mill for powders.
Teco-Sil® grains and powders are packaged
in either multi-walled paper bags or in Super-Sacks.
Teco-Sphere®
powders are produced using a proprietary process that forms each particle
into a spherical shape. Contact C-E Minerals for specific sizes and available
packaging.
Modern warehousing and shipping capabilities,
combined with superior products, make Teco one of the world's leading
suppliers of fused silica.
